In order
for a DA to be compliant and RDA, OA, DSA applicant
to satisfy the applicant requirements with the Dental
Board of California new requirements for RDA applicant
effective January 1, 2010, an 8-hour board approved
Infection Control Certification course is required
to be completed. Upon successful completion of the
course, a certificate of completion shall be given.
On January
1, 2010, The Dental Board of California, under B&P
Section 1750, has taken into effect a new requirement
for unlicensed dental assistants wherein dental assistants
under dentist’s continuous employment for 120
days or more must complete, within a year of the date
of employment, a Dental Board- approved course in
infection control, with a minimum length of 8 hours,
and a Dental Board-approved course in the California
Dental Practice Act.

MANDATORY
CERTIFICATION COURSE for all DA and RDA Applicants
to receive a certificate of completion in Dental Radiation
Safety Course. You do not have to be an RDA to take
the course. This course provides basic dental x-ray
certification training covering multiple exposure
techniques. The course includes classroom, lab, and
clinical training of dental radiation safety and techniques,
film and digital x-ray exposure, film mounting, bisecting
and parallel techniques, processing and critiquing
of dental radiographs.
Four (4)
clinical patients are required. Patients one, two
and three will be done at your workplace and may be
done using digital x-rays. The fourth patient is needed
for the final exam and will use traditional films.
The course is structured to meet the criteria set
forth by the Dental Board for the operation of dental
radiographic equipment in California. Certifications
are issued after successful completion of the course.

be taught through lecture, step-by step demonstration
through a video format and laboratory experience on
a typodont and live patients the student provide as
well. To successfully complete the program, students
will be required to apply pit and fissure sealants
on at least sixteen teeth on four live patients. Students
will be required to complete four (4) clinical practices
on live patients and will be done at your workplace.
Upon completion of the course, students may perform

Effective
1/1/2015, RDAEFs licensed on or after 1/1/2010 became
authorized to perform two (2) additional duties in
both a dental office setting or in a public health
setting, head start program, preschool program or
community clinic. Those duties are:
(1)
Expose emergency radiographs upon the direction
of the dentist.
(2) If the dental auxiliary is
a registered dental assistant in extended functions,
a registered dental hygienist, or a registered dental
hygienist in alternative practice, determine and
perform radiographs for the specific purpose of
aiding a dentist in completing a comprehensive diagnosis
and treatment plan for a patient using telehealth,
as defined by Section 2290.5, for the purpose of
communication with the supervising dentist pursuant
to Sections 1753.55, 1910.5, and 1926.05. A dentist
is not required to review patient records or make
a diagnosis using telehealth.
(3) Perform extra-oral duties or
functions specified by the dentist.
(4) Perform mouth-mirror inspections
of the oral cavity, to include charting of obvious
lesions, malocclusions, existing restorations, and
missing teeth.
(b) For purposes of this section,
“patient of record” refers to a patient
who has been examined, has had a medical and dental
history completed and evaluated, and has had oral
conditions diagnosed and a written plan developed
by the licensed dentist.
EFs certified in ITR may perform these duties without
direct supervision using the standards and protocols
set by the dentist.

Our RDAEF
Course is a hybrid program on weekends with a combined
Home Study via Electronic Media and Live Instruction
to complete the Laboratory practice using typodont,
and to complete your Clinical patients in your Dental
Office.
State
Board Examination
Those who complete the RDAEF program must
sit and pass a state written examination administered
by the Dental Board of California.
Externship
Instruction/ Extramural Facility
RDAEF students must complete ALL clinical patients
for amalgam, glass ionomers, composite restorations,
and other requirements for adult patients (permanent
dentitions) in their dental office under the direct
supervision of their dentist. The dentist will evaluate
the student’s clinical procedures.

The Registered
Dental Assistant in Extended Function (RDAEF) program
has been expanded to include additional procedures
including placement, contouring and finishing of direct
filling restorations as well as the adjustment and
cementation of permanent crowns.
This course
will provide students with the essential knowledge,
skills and practical experience to successfully acquire
certification as a RDAEF, as approved by law for the
RDAEF category of practice,
The RDAEF
Program will be taught as a series of three (3) individual
courses (modules) that must be successfully completed
in sequence within an established time frame before
sitting for the new State Board Examination. Each
module is designed to allow RDAs greater flexibility
to meet the required budgetary and time commitments
to successfully complete the requirements.
Upon completion
of the course, and after completing all Dental Board
of California requirements for the RDAEF state exam,
students may qualify to take the RDAEF State-Board
written examination for licensure.
To successfully complete the program and be eligible
to sit for the new State Board Examination, participants
are required to pass all three modules with a 75%
or better pass rate.

RDA
410-hour program trains and prepares currently licensed
RDAs to perform all of the new procedures in extended
functions which include:

patient oral health evaluations, charting and evaluating
soft tissue, classifying occlusion and myofunctional
evaluation
- Performing
oral health assessments in community and school-based
settings under the direction of a dentist, RDH or
RDHAP
- Sizing
and fitting endodontic master points and accessory
points
- Taking
final impressions for tooth-borne removable prostheses
- Polishing
and contouring existing amalgam restorations
- Placing,
contouring, finishing and adjusting all direct restorations
- Adjusting
and cementing permanent indirect restorations.

Existing
RDAEF (RDAEF1)
318-hour
program updates existing RDAEF (those licensed prior
to January 1, 2010) in the new, allowable procedures

California, and upon successful completion, are able
to perform all of the expanded duties approved for

Annual
Training Course for Dentist and Dental Team. We come
to your office for in-office site visit. Two (2) hours
in-person or electronic media for the dental team,
and two (2) hours site visit to inspect the Dental
Facility. The Client shall arrange and pre-pay or
reimburse the consultants for business-class, or first
class, or premium economy, round trip airline tickets
from the Consultant’s airport [AIRPORTS: Long
Beach, or LAX, or Ontario, or Orange County SNA] to
the venue's airport for the Consultant and 1 (one)
Consultant assistant; ground transportation for the
Consultant and assistant between the venue's airport
and the Consultant’s hotel (at least 4-5 stars);
dual-occupancy hotel accommodations for the Consultant’s
and assistant from noon on the day before the event
until noon on the day after the event ; meals for
Consultant’s and assistant for which receipts
are provided; and all other reasonable, documented
expenses necessary to the Consultant's conduct of
the presentation during the time period of the event.
The Consultant’s will submit receipts and an
itemized invoice for expenses to the Client within
7 (seven) days of the event's end date. The Client
shall reimburse the Consultant with 30 (thirty) days
of receiving receipts and invoice.
